Geology and landscape
The landscape is dominated by the mountain range of the “Koraple” – where the peat for our whiskies is from – and the hills where the fruits and grapes for our brandies are from and the valley of the “Black Sulm” where the corn for our whisky grows.
The “Koralpe” also dominates the climatically conditions of our region because its mountain range protects us again the influence of the Alpes and the cooling gravity wind in the autumn guarantee ideal conditions for best fruits and grapes.
The top soil in the “Black Sulm Valley” belongs to the best in the world to grow corn. Therefor a big part of our whisky-production – produced according to the Bourbon-law – is based on corn.
The geology of the “Koralpe” consists of crystalline shale and gneissic rock which are free from calcium carbonate. According to this we have got water with very low water hardness that is perfect to reduce the alcoholic strength into drinking strength.
